Story
Friends, colleagues and supporters,
I completed the TourXOz charity ride from Adelaide to Darwin raising over $6000 for the Black Dog Institute, a non-profit Australian organisation focussed on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illness.
The cycle tour ran from October 3 - 10 and took a rider group of 63 riders with 20 support volunteers and staff across 3000km. On the bike we covered 100 - 160km daily with temperatures reaching 42km and strong head and cross winds to ensure we had to work hard.
Even after completion, we are still encouraging donations, every dollar helps. And just as important as your donation is to talk about mental health - this is a health problem which is good to talk about because talking, listening and the welcome arms of family, friends and organisations such as the Black Dog Institute make it possible for sufferers to have a chance to experience joy again.

One in five Australians are affected by mental illness each year.
Mental illness can be overwhelming, crippling and isolating.
The Black Dog Institute is a not-for-profit organisation and world leader in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illness such as depression, bipolar disorder and suicide.
We are the only mental health facility in Australia that combines clinical services, high quality translational research and education programs. We work to empower communities and help the stigma surrounding mental illness.
The Black Dog Institute has 4 important goals:

treat them using innovative, effective and accessible strategies,
prevent their onset by understanding why and who they affect
to reduce the overall impact of mental illness and save lives.
